My thoughts and experience on the Van Gogh Alive Exhibition.

As part of my therapy (there will be a future post where I'll be talking about it, don't worry) I have been focusing on self-care. One aspect I've decided to focus on is doing at least one thing for myself each week. This particular week my good friend Annaliese and I went to the "Van Gogh Alive Exhibition" together in Auckland. In all honestly, I didn't know much about this artist but never the less I certainly appreciated his art. If you ever have the opportunity to go to this exhibition you should definitely check it out!
In the first sensory room, a few walls were covered in his paintings with descriptions of what was occurring in his life and the story behind the painting. My favourite was called "The Red Vineyard at Arles", I enjoyed the warm and bright colours, the texture of the painting and the people working in the vineyard. It gave me the impression of everyday life being so beautiful depending on how you perceive it. It also makes me want to visit Southern France! I mean how gorgeous would it be to visit there! Of course, I wanted to take a photo in the "Bedroom of Arles", I mean how cool does the photo look. Then on our way to the next room they had this massive wall with the sunflower quote. Iconic for the gram haha!
This room would definitely have to be my favourite. They had projections covering the room that were all different sizes. The paintings would be projected and some of them were animated and it was synchronised with the timing of the music. I LOVED the music, it was classical that's probably why. Whoever designed this did an amazing job and it was so well thought out. It was memorizing to experience and it transported you to the world of Van Gogh.

The last room we went to was the sunflower room. Okay, I'm just going to say it but it was underwhelming... It was cool, but it was so much smaller than what I was expecting. I mean it was lucky when the show was over in the last room we were near the front of the line to get into the sunflower room. I felt a bit rushed because only a limited amount of people could go in at a time because it was so small. But Annaliese and I managed to take a few selfies before we had to get out.
So, final thoughts. I enjoyed it, I had awesome company and I learnt something new. It was nice to get out and about and appreciate art in another form other than dance. Van Gogh was definitely a character but it was awesome to see how he expressed himself. Definitely check it out team if you can! Arohanui Tiara x
