I can't believe I'm saying this but I think I'm a dog mum.

This is my little girl, Mello. It's her birthday today and she's turning one! She is a Staffy x and she is a maniac. The opposite of mellow.... but I love her even though she catfished me. When we first got her, she was very mellow. Hence her name… but once she had some good food in her she was psycho. I never really appreciated pets as I didn't have any growing up. Mum wasn't keen on the fur getting on her furniture. But now I get why people cried in the movie "Marley and Me."

Mello was brought into my life when I was with my ex. He came home at 2am with her sleeping in his arms and said "I've got a puppy." Not many people can say this but it was the best 2am surprise ever. Due to my job, I'm home during the day so we bonded rather quickly. I took her for walks, to her vet appointments and did all the training.

When my ex and I broke up, Mello was coming with me. Unfortunately, legally the ownership was under my ex. But don't worry I sorted that out as soon as I could. Mello and I have been inseparable and she has been the biggest support doggy a girl could ask for.

Mentally it has been tough for me dealing with different aspects of my life. She has always been home waiting for me, wagging her tail like she's doing the hula. This past year has been a struggle but Mello has been there for me through thick and thin. When I'm crying she lays her head in my lap to when I'm laughing and she's licking my face. We both love taking naps together and going on adventures. Life is difficult to picture without her in it.

I get why some people may not understand the relationship between a human and a pet so I'll do my best to explain it here. No matter what you've done in your past they remain constant. A non-judgmental, forever loving companion like no other. This beautiful soul has stolen my heart.

To that, I say HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELLO! Even though you don't know it's your birthday... haha. Cheers to many more years of chasing balls, trying to get your nanny to feed you extra food at dinner and kisses for your mama. I love you, baby girl!
