My family and I went to Rotorua in New Zealand for New Years Eve 2021. It was a spontaneous short trip, yet it was pretty fun. I haven't been in a wee while, so it was lovely to do some exploring!
Hell's Gate

Hell's Gate has these beautiful mud & sulphur pools which were so relaxing! The mud leaves your skin feeling buttery smooth, Mum was hilarious she told us to put it everywhere.... even our armpits. The sulphur water is the perfect temperature and I left feeling fresh and revitalised. A side note for my jewellery wearers, don't wear any of your jewellery it'll get stained. I highly recommend this location if you want to sit back and relax!

Eat Street
Eat Street is a street with a bunch of restaurants and bars for your choosing. I was recommended to come and check this place out through a friend. My family and I choose a Maori café called "Our House." This is the first Maori influenced restaurant/café I've been to! It has such a lovely and warm atmosphere and the workers were so inviting. I ordered a Maori twist on an eggs benny! Creamy mushroom on top of rewana bread, delicious! We ordered three desserts to share among ourselves, a banana sundae, steam pudding and fry bread with chocolate and banana. The steam pudding was divine! Such a unique café to check out.
Kuirau Park

If you want a free site to check out, go to Kuirau Park. They have geothermal pools and is a great place to take families with young children. They have a playground and a free thermal footbath you can try out! Just beware of the smell!
Katoa Jet Boat
We splashed out a little bit on this activity. It was the most expensive and I didn't even take any pictures! It was such a fun experience, the driver had great humour and was very informative on the history of the lake. He even told us a beautiful love story between Tutanekai & Hinemoa. It was a gorgeous day for spins out on the water.
Night Markets

We headed down to the Night Markets after some Thai food for dins! There was live music and so much food and home goods. This is my Uncle and I striking a pose together.
Redwood Forest
This was by far my favourite activity out of the entire trip. We did the night walk at the Redwood Forest and it was amazing. It was breathtaking with all the lights in the trees. If you are scared of heights this may be a great way to conquer your fear. You'll be distracted by all the lights! Highly recommend doing this, it was such a cool way to start the New Years.
